Description

4.6x30

The 4.6×30 Ammo cartridge was introduced in 1999 as a competitor to FN Herstal’s 5.7×28mm cartridge Heckler & Koch started the development of a semi-automatic handgun for their 4.6×30mm PDW cartridge, but Heckler & Koch cancelled the Ultimate Combat Pistol (UCP) at the prototype stage.

The 4.6x30mm round isn’t one you’ll go to your local gun shop and purchase off the shelf or even require it.

This particular round was developed by H&K and is of only been used in a very small percentage of countries.

This 4.6×30 cartridge has a high-speed centrefire with a rebated rim cartridge that utilizes smokeless powder.

4.6x30mm or simply 4.6×30 was first introduced in 2001, with the creation of the round starting in 1999.

This round is a direct rival to the FN’s 5.7x28mm that is employed with both the Ruger 5.7 and the FN FiveSeven, the 4.6 round was designed for a semi-automatic gun that H&K was working on.

The pistol was ultimately abandoned as the cartridge is only found for H&K’s most recent guns The MP7.

The aim of the 4.6×30 millimeter round was to match the ballistics of 5.7×28mm round and to be used for Personal Defense Weapons (PDWs).

PDWs were small, and needed tiny but powerful rounds to help the guns work ballistically.

4.6x30

The effectiveness that the rounds provide is the reason why the 4.6×30 millimeter round appealing to personal defense weapons. The small dimension of the round makes it simple to fit into small guns and provide greater foot-pounds of force on the target as well as muzzle velocity.

The muzzle speed varies based on the grain weight, but its is between 2,200 and 2410 feet/second.

The energy on target is the same difference, but it is still manageable with 330 to 400 foot-pounds of energy per the target.

The muzzle speed is twice as fast as 9mm and has the same energy at the point of impact as 9mm.

This 4.6×30 round is distinctive due to the fact which, as of writing , there are only two firearms in the world which can accommodate this round.

While there may be additional guns under development, there are only two available: The H&K MP7 and the entertaining CMMG Banshee.

H&K MP7

4.6x30

The most well-known gun to shoot the round of the day is called H&K’s MP7. The gun hasn’t been around for a long time and was not the firearm that the round was originally developed for, but it was designed around the round.

The MP7 isn’t a gun that you’ll find at your local gun store . It is a gun that’s now only sold in select-fire (Full Auto) and is currently only accessible to authorized dealers and law enforcement agencies, and military personnel in the United States.

There is a chance that HK will develop an MP7 for civilians that is legal in the near future , as the gun is stunning to shoot.

CMMG BANSHEE

I had the opportunity to photograph my CMMG Banshee at 4.6 in the Palmetto State Armory Gathering event.

This CMMG Banshee is one of the fun guns I shot on that day. This CMMG Banshee handled this round easily and was small and a part of a platform that is familiar to me that is that of the AR-15.

Although I don’t believe it’s a great idea, the Banshee with a size of 4.6×30 is particularly innovative, I do believe it does put more emphasis on this particular round and could prompt others to take another glance.

Without ammunition, guns are merely hunks of metal that are useless, and it is good to know that the 4.6×30 ammo can be located even if it’s extremely rare.

PRICE OF 4.6×30 AMMO IN STOCK AVAILABLE AT GUNS VALLEY

The 4.6×30 ammo has a price like the 5.7×28 round, which makes sense. It is currently less than 5.7 ammo since it is in high demand. 5.7 is higher.

Although the 4.6×30 ammo costs around .90 cents for each round, and $420 for a box of 500 rounds it’s not the most expensive ammo available on the market in the present.

This 5.7×28 round is trading around $1/round, which is just north of the price point.

THE AVAILABILITY

This ammo is among the more difficult ones to locate because it doesn’t make much reason for stores to carry and, due to its small use, it’s costly and occupies a lot of area to keep.

I was able find 4.6×30 ammo available from Brownells which was unexpected for me, but given their huge range of ammunition, I was not shocked.

As with every new caliber of gun that has been embraced by popular culture there are a lot of questions that are frequently asked.

CAN CIVILIANS BUY MP7?

There isn’t any legal MP7 for civilians accessible within the United States. In very near time, H&K will introduce a civilian legal MP7 available for purchases within the United States.

WHAT IS THE ROUND THAT MP7 SHOOT?

The H&K MP7 shoots the 4.6x30mm round that was developed specifically for PDW weapons like the MP7.

WHAT EXACTLY IS WHAT IS A 4.6 GUN?

The H&K MP7 as well as the CMMG Banshee are the only two guns being manufactured that can be described as 4.6 guns.
